Target the determinants (causes) behind ergonomic risks

To eliminate ergonomic risks at the source and implement concrete and effective solutions, it is essential to identify the determinants (causes) at the origin of ergonomic risks.

Unfortunately, we see too often that decisions are made quickly and temporary solutions are introduced without an assessment of the causes. These rapid interventions are well intentioned but they frequently reveal new ergonomic risks.

If your time is precious and your budgets are limited, take the time to target the determinants causing ergonomic problems. Several approaches are within your reach, for example:a diagram of causes (Fishbone), an in-depth questioning of the problem (5 whys?) or simply by questioning the determinants at the origin of the problem. Keep in mind that the determinants can be numerous and varied: tools, equipment, environment, work method, work organization, nature of the work.

Subsequently, activate your action plan and implement the solutions. This way, you will gain in efficiency and credibility.
